Permanent Supportive Housing

The evidence-based practice of Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) is the model used to define the structure, operations, standards and practice of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) Permanent Supportive Housing model that HRCSB’s program is modeled after. PSH is well-researched and defined and includes two fundamental components: affordable, lease-based rental housing and a comprehensive array of community-based supportive services that are available to recipients based on their changing needs, strengths, abilities and preferences.

The purpose of HRCSB’s PSH program is continue to support and work with individuals who are seriously mentally ill in obtaining and maintaining permanent and supportive housing opportunities.

PSH uses the Housing First model to fight homelessness in our community. Housing first is considered  the most effective approach for ending homelessness for most individuals and families by providing a critical strategy for addressing homelessness by prioritizing stable housing as the foundation for individuals and families to rebuild their lives and access necessary support services.

Individuals who reside in Harrisonburg City, and Rockingham County, Virginia, who meet income guidelines and have a Serious Mental Illness can apply to be a part of the PSH program. Fill out this form and email back to psh@hrcsb.org when completed.
