Behavioral Health Wellness Coordinator

Major Essential Job Functions:

  • Works collaboratively with internal and external partners/stakeholders to plan, implement, and evaluate programming related to state priority areas including substance use prevention, suicide prevention, trauma education, mental health education and promotion, and problem gaming and gambling prevention.
  • Both independently, and in collaboration with others, plans and designs evidence-based and culturally relevant projects, programs, and initiatives to meet community needs related to program priority areas.
  • Engages in the implementation of all program trainings, events, and projects, as needed, which includes participation in training-for-trainers of all required program training courses.
  • Collaboratively administrates program grants including reviewing and upholding all aspects of performance contracts, developing and managing budgets, and conducting evaluation processes
  • Maintains effective and regular communication with relevant agency staff – including Executive Director and Finance Department – on issues, updates, or changes to performance contracts and or grant funding.
  • Collaboratively manages program spending in compliance with agency’s policies, including retaining program expense documentation, completing purchase orders, and preparing expense reports for grantors.
  • Provides direct supervision to Behavioral Health Wellness Specialists, including overseeing program-specific training, managing task lists, monitoring performance development, and managing team morale.
  • Collaboratively manages program data entry responsibilities including entering data into state-wide database(s), monitoring program staff’s entries into state-wide database(s), and ensuring upkeep of any internal program databases (such as program inventory)

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of at least 2 of the 3 major priority areas of the program (with a willingness to continue learning in all) – 1) Mental Health; 2) Trauma; 3) Substance Use [Disorders];
  • Knowledge of post-award grant administrations skills including preparing budgets, grant compliance and reporting.
  • With agency support, ability to successfully complete training-for-trainers courses in Mental Health First Aid, ACE Interface, and REVIVE: Opioid Overdose & Naloxone Education, and other courses, as needed, and then effectively implement and maintain active certification in training curriculums.
  • Ability to design and plan innovative and culturally relevant prevention and wellness promotion projects, events, and activities.
  • Knowledge of instructional design theories, experiential education pedagogy, or training course development practices.
  • Skills in public speaking, training facilitation, or leading educations experiences.
  • Ability to engage with diverse populations effectively on subjects matter relevant to the program.
  • Ability to engage in outreach events – such as community resource or health fairs.
  • Ability to plan and monitor short- and long-term programmatic goals.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective and collaborative partnerships with a variety of community stakeholders.
  • Skills and experience in supervising staff and managing collaborative teams.
  • Ability to assess and address gaps in program offerings or community needs.
  • Ability to manage program compliance with program-related performance contracts or funding guidelines.
  • Skills in computer literacy skills including experience using Microsoft Office and Teams programs with an emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of prevention theories and practices or public health frameworks strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of, or experience assisting, with grant writing.
  • Knowledge of logic models and/or theory of change models.
  • Skills in research and basic data analysis.
  • Ability to develop and execute effective print and digital media assets for the program.
  • Knowledge of social media and marketing strategies.
  • Knowledge of the principles of evaluations processes

Minimum Education and Experience:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, public health, or other health and human services program, plus two years of experience in mental health promotion, suicide prevention, substance use field, or related area of mental and behavioral health service delivery; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Other Information:

Equipment: Telephone, copy/fax machine, vehicle, PC, word processing software, typical devices for presentation of media.

Work Environment: General office environment with normal lighting levels, temperature, air quality, ventilation and noise levels.

Work Location: 1241 N Main St Harrisonburg; various community settings including, but not limited to, work sites, schools, public events, etc.

Work Hazards: Minimal hazards associated with general office environment and community-based services

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, regular office hours; some evenings and weekend hours required; additional hours as needed to perform job requirements.

HIPAA Access Level 4:   No access to protested health information (PHI except through incidental exposure that may occur.  Staff at Level 4 are not allowed to seek out client PHI and are expected to exercise due precautions to avoid exposure to PHI. Utilization of information will be in accordance with HIPAA regulations regarding use limitation, disclosure and requests of PHI.
